Here is central Pennsylvania the leaf colors are FABULOUS!. My home is located in the Appalachian mountain chain which lends itself to a variety of landscapes and strange, sometimes unpredictable weather patterns. Nevertheless grey cloudy skies or the bright colorful blue sky all lends itself to enhance the beauty of the leaf color.

Tomorrow I hope to drive over the next mountain which is about 13 miles southeast of here. From the top of Pine Grove Mountain you can see much of the Big Valley, home to several Pennsylvania Amish communities. Will post the results.

Peace Always

As quickly as spring turns to summer here in central Pennsylvania, summer turns to fall. The day light length is considerably shortened and I struggle to do my outside tasks (gardening, hiking, laundry) leaving enough daylight to paint. As the calendar moves towards the end of the year. I will begin to rely on synthetic light and will relearn, as I do every year, how to adjust colors to be valid in pure light.

One thing about painting with man-made light is that it actually is easier to see the details of what you are painting. Yes the color may be off but the way I set up the light in my studio there are no shadows cast and I fully see the canvas. In the long daylight months I often have to move the easel from place to place to avoid glares and shadows caused by natural sunlight-come December they're will be barely enough hours of daylight to create an issue.

Peace Always

Big Gulp
2008
acrylic on organic cotton and hemp
38" x 38"

A few glasses of beer last night with my friends, a late start to my day today as a result, lost glasses, mislaid backpack...

So with the exception of delivering a painting I just sold and making some yoga props today was pretty much a bust. No art created. No visions inspired.

A few days ago I did start a new painting which I will I plan to periodically post. The working title of this painting is "Collection of Stories" but that title is subject to change. It will be a series of different seemingly unrelated stories with hopefully a connecting thread.

The first story I'm working on is "Fall From Grace" which depicts Eve walking around collecting food to eat. The canvas is 38" x 38" organic cotton canvas. A 38" canvas is large enough that I can both sit and stand while painting.
